Tennessee man charged in suspected drunk driving death

From the plains rising from the shores of the Mississippi River to the rolling hills below the Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee has perhaps the greatest diversity of types of terrain in the region. Drivers know to keep a sharp eye for hazards on open interstate highways as well as winding backcountry roads.

Many laws protect drivers, passengers and pedestrians from reckless driving, inattentive drivers or other likely dangers due to error or carelessness. Perhaps the greatest laws and ones that carries one of the heaviest penalties regarding traffic are those about impaired driving.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is extremely dangerous, as it puts anyone else on the roads with the impaired driver at risk. A 46-year-old Tennessean man is currently facing charges after he allegedly drove a pickup truck while drunk, causing the death of a 27-year-old mother of two in Bay County.

Police responded to the scene of the accident to find an abandoned sedan and an overturned truck in Garfield Township. The driver of the truck said the suspect rear-ended his vehicle, trapping the female passenger inside. She was extricated and later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was found lying under a tree, soaking wet and smelling of alcohol. He surrendered to authorities and did not immediately admit driving the vehicle that caused the collision.

The survivors of his possible victim, as well as victims of drunk drivers elsewhere in Tennessee, may consider legal representation while they seek restitution from drivers at fault. Depending on the circumstances, a personal injury lawsuit may be an option.
