Marshall County girl struck by semi at bus stop

Tennessee has some of every type of road in the United States, from broad interstate highways to backwoods trails up the Great Smoky Mountains. There is no finer way to get across or around the state, which attracts thousands of visitors from elsewhere driving cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Roads always hold their share of risk, with the speed of vehicles and their proximity to each other and people near the road. Hazardous conditions such as weather and darkness add to these risks, and drivers have to be aware of the greatest possibilities of an accident.

A 6-year-old girl was seriously injured in Marshall County after she was hit by a tractor-trailer on a road off State Route 431. The driver had 25 years' experience and was driving with extra care due to fog on the roadway, but still could not avoid hitting the child.

Tennessee Highway Patrol stated that there were no criminal charges at the time. An officer with the patrol said that he was observing normal rules and did not leave the scene of the accident because he realized there had been a collision.

The victim was listed in stable condition at a hospital near Nashville. The truck in question is part of the investigation of the accident.

Victims of motor vehicle collisions and other injuries caused by others may be eligible to claim civil damages such as financial restitution and compensation for medical expenses or other related costs. An attorney may help identify victims' options for legal action.
