Tennessee vehicle collision claims 3 lives

Tennessee is at the crossroads of four regions of the United States, with miles of highway that cross the state in all directions. Driving is a tradition in the Volunteer State, with road use and car ownership rates near the top of the nation.

Reckless and inattentive driving are dangers that become larger with more drivers on the roads, as well as different types of vehicles. Risks also increase between dusk and dawn, when visibility is low and the chances of drivers exhausted or under the influence of drugs or alcohol increase.

A recent high-speed collision left three dead and the possibility of charges against the one survivor. A pickup truck was traveling southbound on a Clarksville road near the Cumberland River when it crossed the center line and hit a passenger car headed north.

The driver and two passengers of the car, ranging between ages 19 and 2, were killed in the accident. The driver of the pickup truck, who was injured at the time, had previously been convicted for speeding on the same road two years earlier.

All involved were wearing seat belts. The Tennessee Highway Patrol declined to state if the surviving driver would face criminal charges in the incident.

Regardless of criminal trial and settlement outcomes, the victims of motor vehicle accidents with an at-fault driver may seek compensatory damages and reimbursement for related costs. An attorney is likely to help weigh the options of plaintiffs when seeking to be made whole by settlements or court actions.
