2 killed in I-40 crash in Knox County

Two people have died and several others suffered serious injuries in a violent crash along I-40 in Knox County last Tuesday. The accident occurred between the exit for Midway and the Sevier County line on I-40. Four vehicles were involved in the accident, which witnesses described as one of the most violent they had ever seen.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, the 69-year-old driver of a Toyota Camry traveling east on I-40 lost control of his vehicle and drove into the median. The vehicle went into the air into the westbound lanes. It landed on top of a Honda Accord, driven by a 22-year-old who died at a local hospital from injuries suffered.

The Camry was hit by a Dodge Ram 1500 when it came to a rest in the middle lane of I-40 West. The car was also hit by a Mazda B2300.

A 54-year-old passenger in the Toyota Camry that went airborne died at the scene of the horrific crash. Two victims of the crash, including the 22-year-old and the 69-year-old, were transported to UT Medical Center via helicopter.

All of the victims in all the cars involved had their seat belts on at the time of the crash. Investigators have said that drugs and alcohol played a role in the crash, but would not elaborate any further, saying that the crash was still under investigation.

Charges are pending against the 69-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry that hit the median and went airborne into the westbound lanes of the highway.

Victims of car accidents and their loved ones can recover damages incurred due to injury or death because of the negligence of others. Damages that can be recovered include medical expenses, funeral expenses, lawyer fees, pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of wages, loss of consortium, loss of future wages, property damage and more.
